
A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after a late-night crash in southeast Dallas that injured two children, according to the Dallas Police Department.
The collision occurred at about 10:57 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of North St. Augustine Drive and Lake June Road in the city's Pleasant Grove neighborhood.
According to a preliminary police investigation, Jose Garcia, 19, was driving a pickup truck when it collided with an SUV carrying the two children.
Dallas Fire-Rescue paramedics responded to the scene and transported both children to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released the children's names, ages or medical conditions.
Police arrested Garcia at the scene. County jail records show he was booked at approximately 3:07 a.m. Monday on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
As of Monday, a bond had not been set.
Investigators have not released additional information about what may have caused the crash or whether other people were injured.
The Dallas Police Department said the investigation remains active, and additional details could be released as detectives continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Driving while intoxicated is a criminal offense in Texas, and cases involving injuries can carry enhanced penalties depending on the outcome of an investigation and any subsequent court proceedings. Authorities have not announced whether additional charges will be filed.
