North Texas is about to get hot. Dallas-Fort Worth will have its first 100-degree day of the year, and it might even break records for heat.

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth says that temperatures will rise this week after a warm start to May. Sunday and Monday will be pretty nice, but things will get hot on Tuesday when Dallas is supposed to hit 94 degrees.

The hottest day of the year is expected to be Wednesday, when the high temperature is near 101 degrees. There is an 80% to 90% chance that this will be the first triple-digit temperature in the area since 2025. If that happens, May 14 could be the hottest on record in DFW. The highest temperature recorded for that day was 95 degrees, which was set in 1955.

It is earlier than usual for North Texas, but it's not the earliest day, and it has been 100 degrees. That honor goes to March 9, 1911. It usually gets to 100 degrees in DFW for the first time in June or July.

The good news? There will soon be relief. It's unclear how much rain a storm system coming in next weekend might bring, but it should help cool things down.

Here’s the latest forecast for Dallas, courtesy of KXAS-TV (NBC5):

  • Monday: Sunny and warm. Low: 58. High: 83. Winds NW 5-10 mph.

  • Tuesday: Sunny, breezy, and hot. Low: 63. High: 94. Winds S 10-20 mph, gusty.

  • Wednesday: Partly sunny, record-breaking heat. Low: 72. High: 96 (with potential to hit 100+). Winds SW 10-15 mph.

  • Thursday: Partly sunny and very warm. Low: 75. High: 90. Winds S 10-15 mph.

  • Friday: Partly to mostly cloudy and warm. Low: 72. High: 88. Winds S 10-15 mph.

  • Saturday: 20% chance of storms. Low: 70. High: 88. Winds S 10-15 mph.

North Texans are advised to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak heat, and prepare for possible strain on power grids as temperatures climb.
