Several Dallas city offices and public facilities closed Friday as the city launched the first of three unpaid furlough days designed to help address an ongoing budget shortfall.

The July 10 furlough marks the first of three scheduled closures approved by city officials, with additional furlough days planned for Sept. 4 and Sept. 28.

Among the facilities closed Friday are City Hall, Code Compliance offices and all branches of the Dallas Public Library system.

While physical library locations are closed, residents can continue accessing digital books, databases and online services through the library's website.

The customer lobby for Dallas Water Utilities at City Hall also closed for the day, although customer service phone lines remain available.

Additional closures include administrative offices for the city's parks and cultural departments, as well as the offices of the Oak Cliff Cultural Center, Latino Cultural Center and South Dallas Cultural Center.

Some city services remain available on modified schedules.

Planning and Development offices and community centers are operating with adjusted hours during the furlough period.

Dallas officials emphasized that essential services will continue uninterrupted despite the temporary closures.

Operations at Dallas Love Field and Dallas Executive Airport remain unaffected, as do emergency response services including police, fire, and emergency medical services.

The city's 311 customer assistance line and sanitation services also continue normal operations.

Residents and visitors attending events at Fair Park, including activities associated with the FIFA Fan Festival, will not experience disruptions. Dallas parks and trails also remain open.

Several city departments will remain open Friday but are expected to observe furlough days later this year. Those departments include Animal Services, recreation and aquatics centers, Municipal Court and Detention Services, golf courses, the Bath House Cultural Center, and Women, Infants, and Children clinics.

City leaders approved the furlough schedule as part of broader efforts to reduce spending and close a budget gap without implementing deeper cuts to essential public services.

Officials encouraged residents to check department websites or contact city offices before visiting in person during upcoming furlough periods.
