US President Donald Trump has expressed strong disapproval regarding the violent death of Chandra Mouli Nagamallaiah, an Indian-origin hotel manager, reportedly at the hands of Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, a Cuban immigrant, in Dallas on September 10.
In a recent update on his Truth Social platform, Trump asserted, “The era of leniency towards these illegal immigrant criminals is finished under my leadership.”
Nagamallaiah, 50, was tragically killed in a machete attack by his co-worker, Cobos-Martinez, after a disagreement regarding a malfunctioning washing machine. An incident occurred in front of Nagamallaiah's wife and child, leading to first-degree murder charges against Cobos-Martinez, who is currently in custody.
Trump promised that those charged would face the maximum legal consequences. The situation has sparked fresh scrutiny of Trump's stringent approach to immigration, especially regarding the implementation of measures targeting undocumented individuals.
Cobos-Martinez, previously arrested for various offenses, was released from ICE custody in January after Cuba declined to accept him because of his criminal background.
The Department of Homeland Security has verified that he was an undocumented immigrant who had a final order of removal from the United States.
In his statement, Trump criticized the Biden administration for releasing Cobos-Martinez, highlighting his criminal history. Cobos-Martinez, hailing from the southern Indian state of Karnataka, relocated to the United States in 2018. He was employed at the Downtown Suites Motel in Dallas and was characterized as a devoted father, with his son on the verge of starting college.
Nagamallaiah’s funeral took place on September 13 in Flower Mound, Texas, and a fundraiser for his family has successfully raised over $321,000.
