The United States' 2026 FIFA World Cup journey ended Monday night with a 4-1 loss to Belgium in the Round of 16, leaving disappointed fans at watch parties across North Texas as the home nation's tournament run came to a close.

Supporters gathered at FIFA Fan Festival Dallas and Texas Live! In Arlington. Viewers watched Belgium take an early lead before the Americans briefly equalized with a free-kick goal by Malik Tillman.

The celebration was short-lived.

Belgium responded just a minute later to reclaim the lead and controlled the remainder of the match, advancing to the quarterfinals with a convincing victory.

The Belgians opened the scoring within the first 10 minutes and maintained pressure throughout the first half. The United States found a spark when Tillman's free kick found the back of the net, sending the crowd at the FIFA Fan Festival into celebration.

Momentum quickly shifted back to Belgium, however, as the European side answered almost immediately to make it 2-1 before halftime.

Belgium extended its advantage in the second half after a mistake by U.S. goalkeeper Matt Freese led to another goal. Romelu Lukaku added a stoppage-time finish to seal the 4-1 result.

With the victory, Belgium advances to face Spain in the quarterfinals Friday in Los Angeles. The United States, one of the tournament's host nations, is eliminated.

The result also brought an emotional end to public watch parties throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

At Texas Live! in Arlington, fans said the outcome was difficult to accept despite optimism about the future of the U.S. men's national team.

"It hurt," one supporter said, describing the feeling shortly after Belgium took control of the match. Another fan said the Americans appeared to struggle throughout the contest. "We were just a step behind," the fan said.

Despite the disappointing finish, many supporters expressed confidence that the United States continues to improve on the international stage and will build on the experience gained during its home World Cup appearance.
