This weekend, Dallas residents can look forward to an additional hour of sleep, as clocks will be set back at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2, signaling the end of Daylight Saving Time.

The U.S. Department of Transportation has announced that most of Texas, including the Dallas-Fort Worth region, will revert to Central Standard Time. The transition marks the start of shorter days and longer nights across North Texas.

Following the change, Dallas will experience sunset at approximately 5:38 p.m. on Sunday—almost an hour earlier than the previous day. The earlier dusk signals the seasonal shift that numerous residents observe most prominently as Daylight Saving Time concludes.

Although the additional hour provides a pleasant break, community leaders emphasize that the shift in time serves as a critical prompt to inspect safety devices in residences. Fire departments throughout Dallas County are urging residents to check their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and replace batteries as necessary.

“As we adjust our clocks, it is an ideal moment to ensure your alarms are functioning correctly,” Dallas Fire-Rescue stated in a public advisory. “A functioning smoke detector has the potential to protect lives.”

On Sunday, March 8, 2026, we will once again set our clocks forward by 1 hour as Daylight Saving Time returns. As winter approaches, Dallas residents should prepare for longer nights and earlier sunsets.
