Texas Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton said Dallas will host the Republican Party’s midterm convention later this year, though party officials have not yet confirmed key details about the event.
Paxton made the announcement during a tele-town hall this week, saying the convention is expected to take place in September. He said the gathering could draw prominent national figures, including former President Donald Trump, who he anticipates will campaign in Texas during the event.

The Republican Party has not officially released dates, a venue or a full schedule for the convention.

Dallas had been under consideration as a host city for months. Sources confirmed in March that the GOP was exploring the idea of holding a national convention tied to the midterm elections, with Dallas and Las Vegas among the potential locations.

Local venue officials have acknowledged early discussions but stopped short of confirming the event. Dave Brown, general manager of the American Airlines Center, said representatives from the Republican Party toured the arena in late February.

Brown did not disclose details about the visit or confirm whether the venue would host the convention.

If confirmed, the event would mark a significant political gathering in North Texas ahead of the midterm elections, drawing party leaders, candidates and supporters from across the country.

Paxton is currently running in a closely watched U.S. Senate race against Democrat James Talarico. He suggested the convention could play a role in energizing Republican voters and boosting campaign visibility.

Details about logistics, security planning and economic impact for the city remain unknown.

The Republican Party has yet to issue a formal announcement confirming Dallas as the official host site.
