Police claim a 27-year-old man from Dallas kidnapped a 12-year-old girl who was walking her dog and took her to a motel in Galveston. Officers located the girl there early on January 31.

The police named the suspect Graham Michael Dunn. The youngster went missing on the night of January 30 while walking her dog in a neighborhood, according to court filings. The dog came back home by itself, so her family called the police.

Investigators found the girl's phone at the Galveston Beach Hotel. At about 4 a.m. on January 31, police went to the motel and found the child in a room with Dunn. According to criminal documents, investigators looked at surveillance tape that showed the girl going into a room with the suspect.

Police arrested Dunn at the scene. According to court records, the girl told police that Dunn gave her two tablets that made her feel "woozy." Authorities say Dunn sexually assaulted the youngster and filmed the attack on his phone.

The police did not say anything else about the girl's condition, but they said she was better and had been taken out of the hotel room. Dunn was charged with aggravated kidnapping. As the inquiry goes on, further charges may be brought.

In Galveston County, where child safety advocates have been telling families to stay alert for a long time, this story has gotten a lot of attention. Officials in law enforcement have not said if Dunn and the victim knew each other before the alleged kidnapping.

Dunn is set to appear in court for a status conference on February 10, according to court documents. According to jail records, he remains in custody while the court case proceeds.

Authorities are still looking into the case. The Galveston Police Department would like to hear from anyone who has more information.
