Heavy thunderstorms overnight caused a ground stop at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, which caused big problems with travel all over North Texas. WFAA officials say the storm caused over 100 DFW flights to be canceled and hundreds more to be delayed.

  • Dallas-Fort Worth International (DFW):
    • 119 cancellations and 89 delays were recorded as of Wednesday morning, per FlightAware reports.

    • FlightView reported typical departure delays at DFW between 46 minutes and 1 hour, tied to gate holds and taxi congestion from weather earlier in the day.

  • Dallas Love Field (DAL):
    • Experienced non-fatal but significant delays, with approximately 15 flights delayed and 1 cancellation reported by FlightAware this morning.

    • FlightView data indicates that departure delays are increasing, averaging 32 minutes, while arrival delays are approximately 41 minutes.

Travelers are advised to verify flight status directly with airlines and stay informed with real-time updates via FlightAware or the official channels of the airports as cleanup efforts progress and flights work to resume their schedules.

Travelers should check their flight status directly with the airlines and monitor real-time updates through FlightAware or the airports' official sources as they work to clean up and reschedule flights.

  • Tip for Travelers:

    • Check airline and airport notifications frequently.

    • Arrive early to allow for security and rebooking delays.

    • Prepare for extended waits, especially for flights out of DFW and Love Field.

As the day progresses, airlines and airport personnel are in the process of recovering from the storm-related lag. However, it is anticipated that there will be ripple effects, including rescheduled flights in the afternoon and evening, as the system normalizes.
