FedEx is set to eliminate over 850 positions in North Texas following the definitive closure of its Coppell supply chain facility. The company attributes this decision to a significant client unexpectedly relocating its business. The organization outlined the job cuts in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification submitted to state authorities on November 21

FedEx Supply Chain Logistics & Electronics, Inc., has announced that it will cease operations at the 840 W. Sandy Lake Road location following an unnamed customer's decision to move to a facility operated by a different third-party logistics provider. “This action is required solely due to our customer’s decision,” the company stated in the WARN notice.

The company anticipates completing the closure by April 29, 2026, affecting all 856 staff members at the site. FedEx announced that the layoffs will take place in stages linked to production levels, starting on January 16, 2026, when 62 employees will be let go. The employees in that first group have already received the 60-day notice mandated by federal regulations.

The filing indicates that the company plans to provide written notice to all remaining employees at least 60 days before their termination date. FedEx announced that none of the impacted roles are part of a union and emphasized that there are “no bumping rights” based on seniority. The organization announced that employees will maintain their salaries and benefits through their last day, with retirement and insurance benefits managed in accordance with current plans.

FedEx is now sharing details about additional job opportunities within the organization, including positions at nearby locations, as part of its strategy to keep some of the affected workforce.

The HR manager of the company, Joel Frierson—whose signature is on the WARN notice—stated that FedEx is adhering to federal and state regulations concerning closures and mass layoffs. FedEx has yet to respond to the inquiry.

The closure in Coppell signifies the second significant workforce cut by FedEx in Texas this year. In June, the company announced it would cut 305 positions at its Fort Worth facility on Independence Parkway. Beginning on July 6, the reductions will continue until October 25, affecting over half of the site's approximately 580 staff members.

FedEx has decided not to disclose the identity of the departing customer or the potential impact on other operations in North Texas.
