The NFL has suspended Rashee Rice, a wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, for six games for violating the league's personal conduct code, NFL Media's Tom Pelissero reported Wednesday.

The ban is because Rice and a former college teammate were involved in a high-speed crash in Dallas in March 2024 that hurt four people. According to a report from the Dallas Police Department, Rice was going 119 mph in a Lamborghini SUV just seconds before he caused a six-car accident. Additionally, the story reported that at the time of the crash, Rice's former college teammate, Teddy Knox, an SMU football player, was driving a Corvette at 116 miles per hour.

On April 11, 2024, Rice turned himself in to the police in Dallas. He was later freed on bond. One charge was aggravated assault, one was collision causing significant bodily injury, and six were collision causing injury. Rice got 30 days in jail and five years of probation in July.

Pelissero reported that the NFL and the NFL Players Association are finalizing the settlement of Rice's case. This means that he will be able to play again in Week 7 when the Kansas City Chiefs play the Las Vegas Raiders.

Rice will not be able to play in the Chiefs' first six games of the 2025 season. The first game will be in Brazil in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers. Next week, Kansas City plays host to the Philadelphia Eagles in a rematch of the Super Bowl. Thereafter, they play the New York Giants, Baltimore Ravens, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Detroit Lions consecutively.

Following his selection in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Rice made a significant impact during his first season. He had 79 catches for 938 yards and seven scores, which was the most on his team. He also had six catches for 39 yards in the Chiefs' win over the 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.

Last season, Kansas city counted on Rice's performance a lot. This year, they will start the season without one of their most promising offensive weapons. When he comes back in Week 7, quarterback Patrick Mahomes will have another reliable target for the second half of the season as the Chiefs try to defend their title.
