Dallas singer-songwriter Joshua Ray Walker is set to release his first album since recovering from cancer, marking a deeply personal return to music after one of the most challenging periods of his life.

Walker announced that his new album, Ain't Dead Yet, will be released May 29, 2026, through East Dallas Records and Thirty Tigers. He also unveiled a European tour that includes performances in Norway, Sweden, the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The album was initially written before Walker learned he had cancer, but he revisited and reworked nearly every song while undergoing treatment and recovery. Looking back, the Texas musician said many of the songs reflected emotions he did not yet understand.

"That whole year, I just felt awful and like I was dying," Walker said. "I didn't feel right, and mentally I was off, like there really was something wrong the whole time."

Walker, who now says he has a clean bill of health, described the songwriting process as unexpectedly prophetic after his diagnosis.

One of the album's most personal tracks, "Capital Letters," pays tribute to two influential figures in his life—his grandfather and Trey Johnson, co-founder of Walker's first record label.

Walker said the song reflects the lasting impact both men continue to have on him, adding that he sometimes imagines conversations with them or wonders whether they still influence his songwriting.

His grandfather also inspired Walker's first released song, "Fondly," which appeared on his 2019 debut album, Wish You Were Here.

Walker said Ain't Dead Yet serves as both a reflection on the past three years and a celebration of moving forward after surviving cancer.

"I'm really grateful to have a second chance," Walker said. "I'm also grateful to have lived through thinking I was going to die. It gives you perspective in a way you really can't fake until you've actually done it."

Known for blending traditional country, Americana and heartfelt storytelling, Walker has become one of North Texas' most recognizable independent artists. His latest release marks a new chapter both personally and professionally as he returns to performing and recording following his recovery.
