Energy Transfer has announced a commitment of $15 million to aid the development of a new $5 billion pediatric campus currently under construction in Dallas’ Southwestern Medical District. UT Southwestern Medical Center is spearheading this significant project in collaboration with Children’s Health. A new hospital complex is set to open in 2031, aiming to increase pediatric care capacity to meet the demands of the rapidly growing North Texas region.
A donation was revealed at a gathering commemorating the collaboration focused on the upcoming pediatric campus. A new medical complex spanning 4.9 million square feet is set to be anchored by Moody Children’s Hospital, featuring a total of 552 hospital beds distributed across three towers.
Leaders at Energy Transfer announced that the recent donation underscores the company's dedication to enhancing health care accessibility for families throughout Texas.
Energy Transfer Co-CEO Tom Long expressed his organization's commitment to advancing healthcare for future generations, stating, “We are honored to be able to step forward in this way to ensure that future generations of children continue to receive the best possible medical care.” “This donation underscores our dedication to the ambitious vision of UT Southwestern Medical Center and Children’s Health, as well as the outstanding medical professionals who offer hope and healing to families across Texas and, in many instances, nationwide.”
Energy Transfer manages an extensive network of over 140,000 miles of pipelines and associated energy infrastructure spanning 44 states, and it was established in 1996 by University of Texas at Arlington alumnus Kelcy Warren. This positions the company as one of the largest midstream energy firms in the United States. In Dallas, the company has a workforce of nearly 900 employees, while its global staff totals approximately 16,000 individuals.
Co-CEO Mackie McCrea emphasized that the company prioritizes support for community initiatives, with a particular focus on health care.
“It is important to us to strengthen the communities where we work and live by addressing critical issues such as health and wellness,” McCrea stated. “We take pride in endorsing the enduring contributions of UT Southwestern Medical Center and Children’s Health, two institutions providing transformative assistance in our Dallas community.”
The pediatric campus project is underway as North Texas braces for a significant population shift. Officials anticipate a substantial increase in the pediatric population in the region by 2050, which is expected to drive increased demand for specialized health care services for children.
Dr. Daniel K. Podolsky, President of UT Southwestern, announced that the recent contribution will significantly enhance pediatric treatment and research initiatives.
Podolsky expressed gratitude for Energy Transfer's commitment to a collaborative vision to enhance pediatric health care in Dallas. “Thanks to their generous support, we will enhance care, instill hope for families, and expedite discoveries that will benefit future generations.”
Christopher J. Durovich, president and CEO of Children’s Health, stated that the investment reflects robust backing from the business community for the extensive medical initiative.
“This remarkable commitment demonstrates the business community’s trust in our collective vision,” Durovich stated. Officials announced that the new pediatric campus in Dallas aims to enhance access to advanced care for children, addressing the increasing demands of families in the region both now and in the future.
In honor of Energy Transfer's generous donation, officials have announced the naming of a patient floor in the new hospital.
