A clinical trial in Dallas is exploring a new approach to treating amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS. The progressive neurodegenerative disease affects voluntary muscles, leading to loss of movement, speech, and eventually breathing. A local woman, Sunny Brous, was diagnosed with ALS at age 25 after noticing muscle twitching and weakness in her hand.
