Dallas Welcomes New Police Chief Aligned with "Law and Order" Immigration Approach

Dallas has entered a new chapter in law enforcement as Police Chief Daniel Comeaux takes the oath of office. His swift actions are already making headlines, particularly his dedication to collaborating with federal agencies on immigration enforcement. This position represents a notable shift from the strategies employed by the prior administration and is in line with the stricter immigration measures advocated by Texas officials.

Chief Comeaux, with decades of experience in federal law enforcement, including his recent position as Special Agent in Charge of the DEA field office in Houston, highlighted his department's readiness to support federal partners. Officials have stated their commitment to taking the appropriate actions moving forward. Comeaux stated in an interview with Fox News Digital that the department will consistently support its federal partners, emphasizing that assistance will continue as long as operations remain lawful and respectful.

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson, known for his notable party switch from Democrat to Republican in 2023, has expressed robust support for Chief Comeaux's leadership approach. Mayor Johnson has expressed his backing for initiatives aimed at deporting undocumented migrants who are accused of violent offenses, positioning himself in accordance with President Donald Trump's focus on public safety. “We would certainly back that initiative,” Johnson stated regarding the deportation of violent undocumented migrants.

This development occurs as Texas intensifies its initiatives to combat illegal immigration, which encompass border deployments and the transportation of migrants to cities governed by Democrats. 

Dallas, recognized as the largest city in the United States with a Republican mayor, has experienced a significant reduction in crime rates since Mayor Johnson assumed office in 2019. The mayor credits the achievement to a dedicated police chief, an emphasis on public safety within the budget, and the cultivation of community support for crime reduction initiatives.

Chief Comeaux emphasized his commitment to removing felons from the streets, delivering a clear message: "Anyone with a felony warrant should be aware that we could be the ones knocking at your door at any moment." He clarified that while the DPD will not initiate immigration investigations, they will reach out to the appropriate federal agency if they come across individuals lacking legal status.

The newly adopted strategy diverges significantly from the stance taken by former DPD Interim Chief Michael Igo, who had previously stated that the department would refrain from reporting undocumented individuals who seek assistance by calling 911. Chief Comeaux has delivered a definitive message: Dallas will not serve as a refuge for criminals. 

Authorities in Dallas have issued a stern warning to potential criminals, stating, "If you commit crimes in Dallas, it's very likely that we're seeing you, we're watching you, and we're coming to get you." Officials are urging individuals contemplating illegal activities to "Pick another city." 

Officials led by Chief Comeaux have issued a statement urging individuals to refrain from visiting Dallas, emphasizing that they are not welcome in the city.
