The Dallas Mavericks beat the odds to get the first pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
The Draft Lottery took place at McCormick Place Convention Center on Monday night. Dallas will pick first overall for the first time in the team's history. They're likely to pick Duke star Cooper Flagg with that pick.
Dallas made a huge jump to the top spot, even though they only had a 1.8% chance of winning. When he got the No. 1 package, team CEO Rick Welts said, "I am so happy for Mavericks fans." "It's going to be something amazing."
Many people think that 6-foot-9 Flagg will be the first pick. He had a great freshman year and led Duke to the Final Four. He was also named the AP National Player of the Year. He shot well from all over the court and scored 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game.
Flagg has already played against NBA players before. He was picked to play against Team USA before the 2024 Olympics in Las Vegas, even though he was only 17. Players and leaders both thought he was great.
Even though Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle are from San Antonio and have won Rookie of the Year awards in the past, they will pick second. Philadelphia (3rd), Charlotte (4th), and Utah (5th) make up the rest of the top five.
The 2025 NBA Draft will happen over two nights. The first round will be on June 25, and the second round will be on June 26, both at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
